The Trans Canada Trail is close by where you'll find the longest trestle on this section of the CPR, spanning the Kettle River almost 500 feet ”. People travel great distances to view the spectacular Cascade Gorge and waterfalls. There are plenty of other local trails for all abilities to hike and bike with endless beauty. Try kayaking or a leisure tube ride down the river with the locals. You can rent a boat to check out the entire 12 mile stretch and picnic at the boat access only beaches near the north end of Christina Lake. Want something different to do? Tour local artisans and museums, in both Grand Forks and Rossland with the Le-Roi mine, museum and more. The Rock Candy Mine takes you back in time while you search for treasured fluorite crystals (they let you keep your findings!). Ainsworth Hotspring Resort makes a nice rainy day trip. Red Mountain Ski Resort and Phoenix Ski Hill are less than an hour drive away. Local trail riding outfitter Owl Mountain Ranch can get you and your family out horseback riding for a memorable way to see our beautiful area. Or contact Canada Photo Safaris and with some luck you'll see some amazing local wildlife while exploring the enchanting scenery. Grand Forks boasts a delightful movie theatre, restaurants and shopping. . . But don't forget our local Farmers' Market. The ideas are endless to create your own customized vacation . . .you just may need to stay a little longer than you thought!
